The problem
We have lost 80% of our independent grass-roots music venues and nightclubs in the last 15 years in the UK. The other 20% is high risk and could also be lost very soon.
This will be a disaster for the UK music industry, for tourism, for London as an international cultural hub and Londoners at large.
The culture of our beautiful city is at stake. This is a rallying call for us to stage the mother of all rescues!
It's called CRUSH! We have a CRUSH! on London. And we have a CRUSH! on you x
Our Solution
A six-month festival from September 2024 to March 2025 will unite creatives, artists, businesses, charities and communities across Greater Hackney to celebrate East London’s unique independent spirit with a giant cultural takeover including festivals, venues, galleries and more.
We will be telling the story of counter-culture art and music from the time of Shakespeare to now.
Goals
1. Galvanise
Galvanise Hackney stakeholders to support East London's renowned arts, music and culture scene.
2. Return
Return to the energetic creative explosion of music, art and culture that made East London such a powerhouse in the first place
3. Regenerate
Regenerate our music and arts scene, our independent venues and festivals, our spirit of community and our charities through a huge boost to our shared cultural ecosystem.
